Football, the world’s most popular sport, has received significant assistance from technology in recent years. Many innovations such as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system and semi-automatic offside system have been added. However, this has not yet addressed player penalties. FIFA is updating a rule that has remained unchanged for 54 years.
The era of the Blue Card begins in football
According to a report in Telegraph, IFAB will take the first step for a project it has been working on for a long time tomorrow. Accordingly, football players who commit acts of deception towards the referee or show severe dissent to the referee will receive a blue card and will have to wait on the sidelines for 10 minutes.
Yellow and red cards have been used since 1970. IFAB will make the biggest change in recent years by adding a new card alongside these. According to reports, the rule will first be applicable in the lower leagues that are selected. If it passes the test, it will be implemented in the top leagues as well.
